Hear from our apprentices and interns

With a background in archaeology, I found it difficult to show potential employers that I was suited to working in other fields. I applied for the Kickstart HR & Recruitment Administrator role but didn't expect to hear back, much less secure an interview and then get the job!
I quickly fell in love with abcam's philosophy and approach, as well as the people I was working alongside. Fast-forward a few weeks and I was offered a permanent position within the HR team.

I joined abcam as a customer service specialist but I've always wanted to work in marketing. I started volunteering for internal marketing projects, which resulted in me being well positioned when a marketing automation specialist role came up. My job involves creating, maintaining and improving email marketing campaigns, which I enjoy doing as it involves a lot of data analysis and creativity.
Alongside my new role I was able to do a Level 4 Marketing Executive Apprenticeship. I was overwhelmed to have achieved a distinction in the course and I am now busy putting all the things I've learned so far into practice.

For the first 18 months of my career at abcam I worked as a receptionist. I was keen to learn and progress and when I saw the Environment, Health & Safety apprenticeship role come up I was quick to apply. I had just started my apprenticeship course when COVID-19 struck. As you can imagine our team was at the forefront of the changes we had to implement to keep everyone safe and well.
My team were and are amazing and I've had access to so many opportunities to put theory into practice. I've had fantastic mentoring and feel completely supported in my learning journey.
