Hear from our apprentices and interns
With a background in archaeology, I found it difficult to show potential employers that I was suited to working in other fields. I applied for the Kickstart HR & Recruitment Administrator role, I didn’t expect to hear back, much less secure an interview and then get the job! I quickly fell in love with Abcam's philosophy and approach, as well as the people I was working alongside. Fast-forward a few weeks, I was offered a permanent position within the HR team. I chose an apprenticeship over going to University because I wanted to gain a professional qualification while earning. Having the chance to work alongside other professionals in the career I wanted to go into was really motivational. Everyone wants you to succeed just as much as you do, and they are willing to help you in any way they can. I believe an apprenticeship is a great way to start a career, and you end up with more experience in a working environment than other people who chose to go a different route.Yasmin WoodfieldSuccessful apprentice & current reward partner
I joined Abcam as a customer service specialist but I've always wanted to work in marketing. I started volunteering for internal marketing projects, which resulted in me being well positioned when a marketing automation specialist role came up. My job involves creating, maintaining and improving email marketing campaigns, which I enjoy doing as it involves a lot of data analysis and creativity. Alongside my new role I was able to do a Level 4 Marketing Executive Apprenticeship. I was overwhelmed to achieved a distinction in the course and I am now busy putting all the things I've learned so far into practice.Connor BanksMarket automation specialist & successful level 4 marketing executive apprentice
For the first 18 months of my career at Abcam I worked as a receptionist. I was keen to learn and progress and when I saw the Environment, Health & Safety apprenticeship role come up I was quick to apply. I had just started my apprenticeship course when COVID-19 struck. As you can imagine our team was at the forefront of the changes we had to implement to keep everyone safe and well. My team were and are amazing and I've had access to so many opportunities to put theory into practice, fantastic mentoring and feel completely supported in my learning journey.
