Senior Laboratory Technician - Cell Culture (12 months)

About the role

Abcam, a rapidly expanding bioscience organisation, are looking for an enthusiastic Laboratory Technician to join our first-class New Product Development Team (R&D) on a permanent basis. You will be responsible for the routine subculture of adherent and suspension human and murine mammalian cell lines to support the characterisation of Abcam products.

This is a very exciting opportunity for a passionate Bioscience Graduate or someone with mammalian cell culture experience to join a growing organisation and ultimately support researchers and scientists across the world to discover more faster!

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Resuscitation, subculture and cryopreservation of adherent and suspension mammalian cell lines to support characterisation of Abcam products in immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry and western blot analysis;
  • Maintain master and working cell banks for each cell line;
  • Assist in maintaining processes and procedures for mycoplasma and contamination control within the cell culture facility;
  • Work to concepts and practices of Abcam’s lab health and safety policy including the regulations governing COSHH, biological agents and genetically modified organisms.
  • Ensure compliance with Quality policies and SOPs;
  • Set and achieve high standards for cell culture environment. Employ and encourage effective aseptic techniques and good cell culture practices.
  • Assist with general housekeeping duties.

About you

You typically are a Bioscience Graduate and/or have some experience of mammalian cell culture. You ultimately understand the fundamental science behind cell culture techniques.

You have an excellent attention to details and a natural ability to deliver work that requires high precision. Team-work is essential at Abcam in order to deliver the best service and products to our customers, and so you will need to be a natural team-player to be successful.

You are enthusiastic and eager to develop your knowledge and experience in the field, adopting a proactive approach to learning.
