Scientist - Flow Cytometry

Department: New Product Development

Location: Branford, Connecticut, United States

Abcam is looking for a Scientist to join our team in Branford, CT supporting the validation of new products from our recombinant antibody pipelines and will form part of our network of flow experts around the globe. This role will plan, design and execute flow cytometry-based studies including completing target evaluations, planning and executing studies, analyzing data, summarizing/presenting results to global teams and writing study reports independently with minimal direction from supervisor. Ideal candidate will exercise judgment and lead in identifying/trouble shooting technical issues and recommending solutions.

The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in Biological Science or Immunology plus 2 years of experience; Master’s degree plus 7 years of experience; Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience, in the offered position or closely related position.

• Develop high-quality, robust antibodies with associated documentation
• Independently design, plan and conduct laboratory experiments in support of new product development.
• Identify and resolve problems in experimental design and outcomes.
• Maintain good laboratory records and presentation of regular internal research reports.
• Provide clear manufacturing instructions, QC specifications and technical support to the manufacturing team for developed products including details of performance, stability and packaging.
• Prepare technical reports, product summaries, protocols and SOPs, quantitative analyses and journal publications, where appropriate.
• Provide technical assistance and marketing support to the commercial operations selling reagents and antibodies.
• Provide technical assistance to customer support and directly to customers for reagents and antibodies.
• Comply with all safety and quality regulations.
• Routine maintenance and troubleshooting of scientific equipment.
• May be required to supervise members of scientific staff.
• May be required to perform other duties as required/assigned.

• Significant multi-color flow cytometry (5+ years) experience planning, setup and the execution of analyses of immune cell populations is required (PBMC, T cells and subsets, B cells, NK cells, dendritic cells, monocytes, macrophages, granulocytes)
• Strong experience with various industry-standard flow cytometry software packages
• Expert understanding of flow analysis, compensation and gating strategies for analysis of mixed cell populations.
• Study design, data/statistical analysis and reporting of results in both written and oral format (presentation)
• Experience in immunocytochemistry methods would be highly desirable
• Excellent writing skills. Experience in drafting of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols, reports, etc.
• Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot as necessary
• Excellent organization skills and time management skills to be able to efficiently evaluate, prioritize and handle multiple tasks and priorities.
• Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with colleagues and various functions throughout the organization.
• Maintain well organized laboratory notebooks in compliance with relevant procedures.
