Research Associate – EMEA Custom Solution

The successful candidate will primarily support the screening and assay development capabilities of the Custom Solutions Team, using their scientific and technical skills to deliver tailor-made rabbit monoclonal antibody projects on time and to high standards for external customers. Additional support of other areas including cell culture and molecular biology is expected, when required.

About Custom Solutions at Abcam

Abcam EMEA Custom Solutions team is part of a global section that offers customers (including leaders from the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry) tailor-made, high-performance antibody discovery projects to deliver solutions for their research, diagnostic and therapeutic programs. We utilize a number of approaches, including RabMAb® technology (our patented antibody technology), B cell cloning, Next Generation Sequencing and phage display for the development of high-quality monoclonal antibodies.

Job Responsibilities

The person appointed to this role will;
  • Support all aspects of assay development and screening for bespoke monoclonal antibody projects;
  • Carry out a variety of assays such as ELISA, Western Blot and Flow Cytometry;
  • Use liquid handling automation to support high throughput screening;
  • Contribute to and support process improvements;
  • Ensure the lab is tidy and continually stocked with key reagents and lab consumables;
  • Support Data Management by analysing data and recording within laboratory notebooks in a timely manner;
  • Assist with the preparation of reports and recommendations to be shared with customers;
  • Assist other areas of Custom Solutions, including cell culture and molecular biology, when required;
  • Abide by Laboratory SOPs and work within Abcam H & S, Ethical and Quality standards;

About you

You will be educated to Degree level in Biological Sciences (or equivalent), and have a track record of contributing to successful outcomes on projects in academia and/or the Biotech/Pharma industry. Experience in high throughput screening of hybridomas or recombinant antibodies and assay development is desirable but not essential.
Our ideal candidate will have some knowledge and understanding of technical principles, literature and methods in relevant fields. In particular, some knowledge is expected of standard binding assays such as ELISA, HTRF, and flow cytometry. An awareness of data analytic theories such as four parameter curve fitting and EC / IC50 is advantageous. Hands-on experience in these techniques and analytics would be an added bonus but not essential, as all relevant training will be provided.
You will be a team player, hardworking, have excellent organisational capabilities and deliver results consistently to a high-standard. You will have the ability to manage day-to-day activities, conform to SOPs, work to deadlines and achieve clear milestones set by the line manager, with the understanding of how these fit into the wider team purpose.
