Regulatory Compliance Manager (Product Safety Data)



About the role:



An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Abcam as Regulatory Compliance Manager (Product Safety Data), initially on a fixed term contract basis.  This is a critical to success role in our business and will be accountable for the management of all product safety data published about our products, both via our commercial platforms and in physical form accompanying products delivered to our worldwide customers. 


The role plays a key role in driving and ensuring compliance to all relevant product safety and hazardous/dangerous goods regulation affecting Abcam’s global operations. 


In executing this accountability for Abcam, you will also have leadership responsibility for a small team of product safety/ safety data specialists, UK and US based, in the business.




Essential Responsibilities:


  • Leadership and development of a team of dedicated product safety/safety data professionals

  • Manage product Safety Data Sheets (SDS) & labelling hazard data on behalf of the business, supporting all requests for new SDS production and/or change to existing documentation, in line with defined service levels

  • Be a subject matter expert (SME) in the fields of product safety and dangerous goods regulation, being familiar with all relevant regulation and legislation affecting Abcam’s business

  • Maintain a professional network in the product safety and dangerous/ hazardous goods fields, ensuring Abcam is aware of trends/developments relevant to its business

  • Ensure Abcam is compliant with all regulatory and legislative requirements in the fields of product safety and dangerous/hazardous goods management, driving business activity as required to maintain compliance and ensuring appropriate actions are taken to close out non-compliance

  • Anticipate changes in the regulatory and legislative environment, ensuring that Abcam has appropriate management and/or mitigation actions in place in order to maintain compliance, as required

  • Support continuous improvement activity within the scope of the role, and in the wider team, as required


About you:




You will be a hard-working, enthusiastic and curious individual, with demonstrable and successful professional experience in the fields of product safety and hazardous/dangerous goods management, in a relevant business context.  The successful candidate will possess a high degree of subject matter knowledge in these fields.  You will possess natural attention to detail and excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills, thriving in an operational environment where SLA attainment is a critical to success feature.  You will be comfortable with ambiguity and change, and with taking decision-making accountability in such an environment.


 



Key requirements:



  • Previous experience in the authorising of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and use of relevant authoring software is an essential requirement.  Knowledge of the WERCs software suite would be a distinct advantage

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation/ regulation impacting on Abcam’s global business is essential.  This is including but not limited to: REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) within the EU; the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS); and, relevant domestic legislation in Abcam’s global markets, such as Japanese Chemicals Management, Poisonous and Deleterious Substances and Industrial Health and Safety legislation

  • A Chemistry degree would be beneficial, but no essential
