Overview of your role as a Paralegal Apprentice
Abcam, a rapidly expanding bioscience organisation, are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Paralegal Apprentice. As a Paralegal Apprentice you will be involved in a range of legal and general administrative tasks, working closely with our team of highly qualified and experienced legal professionals.
This is a unique opportunity for a bright and ambitious individual keen to gain practical experience within a fast-paced and successful Legal department, while completing a nationally recognised legal qualification. You will be empowered to take initiatives, make decisions and manage your own workflow and you will learn from highly dedicated and passionate people.
Your roles and responsibilities
You will report directly into the Associate General Counsel and engage in Legal administrative tasks such as assisting with the creation and maintenance of Abcam’s new contract database and maintaining the Intellectual Property register.
You will be responsible for managing a variety of legal documents involving photocopying, scanning, faxing, filing and accurately logging data onto spreadsheets, as well as producing standard correspondence and proofreading documents.
You will carry out basic legal research under supervision, assist with general case load, contribute to team meetings and exchange information and ideas, to support the efficient running of the Legal & Company Secretary Team.
In addition, you will support the team with general administrative tasks such as handling telephone communications both internally and externally, preparing and submitting the team expenses, supporting with the organisation of onsite and offsite meetings, produce purchase order numbers and invoices. You will also handle the post, organise travel arrangements and any other tasks as and when required by the team.

- You are genuinely passionate about starting a career in the Legal field
- Ideally you will have been involved in extra-curricular activities such as a side job, team sport, art, music or else.
- Completed at least 5 GCSES A*-C including Maths and English or equivalent qualifications (any other level 2 qualifications).
- At least two A-Levels completed by September 2018 ideally including biology, maths or chemistry, although not essential.
Please note the above qualifications requirements are defined by the Government and therefore we will not be able to consider applicants who don’t meet these criteria.
