About the role

As part of our ongoing transformation and significant investment in technology, we’re now looking for an exceptional IT Business Partner to join our IT Business Systems Team to help shape and deliver our IT project portfolio and our long-term technology strategy primarily for our Customer Experience (CX) division which includes all Sales, Integrated Marketing, eCommerce, Consumer Insights & Analytics and Customer Excellence functions, other areas include IT and Legal.

You will be working directly with the CX Leadership Team to ensure successful delivery of the projects within the CX portfolio, developing the business/IT roadmap, capturing available synergies, balancing delivery priorities and constraints and managing projects/portfolio interdependencies.  The portfolio will be formed of a diverse collection of projects and programmes with budgets ranging from £20k to £5m.

Abcam operates in a matrix environment so you'll be working closely with our digital delivery team, architects, BI team, IT ops and multiple delivery partners to make sure each new IT programme is set up for success. 

You will be responsible for managing and developing a team of Project Managers and Business Analysts.  You will also act as the IT “Account Manager” for the CX, Legal & IT business areas and will be required to develop close “trusted partner” relationships with business colleagues and ensure that the IT/Business relationship is supported by clear understanding of both sides’ roles and responsibilities.

Roles & Responsibilities

 

  • Demand Management: Manage a pipeline of planned and unplanned CX, IT & Legal requests. Identify business needs and opportunities and feed them into demand management process.  Participate in the business planning and annual budgeting process, providing IT related input.  Understand business strategy, translating business demands into deliverable IT project portfolios.

  • Portfolio Management: Own delivery and manage the CX, IT & Legal portfolios of projects.  Develop the delivery strategy, managing inter-portfolio dependencies, capturing available synergies.  Measure portfolio performance and ensure value maximisation.  Lead and contribute to further development of Abcam’s portfolio/project delivery capability.

  • Project Delivery Assurance: Provide guidance, support and assurance to Project Managers and Business Analysts, aimed at achieving delivery on time, budget and to customer expectations and ensuring accurate and comprehensive capture and validation of business requirements

  • Business Relationship Management and Consulting: Build, own, develop and foster the IT / Business relationship for CX, Legal & IT business areas. Provide thought leadership in the innovative use of technology to deliver the business plans and engage relevant IT teams to support business strategic agenda. 

  • Stakeholder Management and Communication: Form strong, positive working relationships at all levels in CX, Legal and IT, including the Executive Leadership Team and Functional Directors, Business Change Leads and various SMEs.  Identify stakeholder needs and requirements and manage delivery/service expectations.

  • Team Management: Ensure high delivery standards and performance of project teams formed by internal employees, contractors and external suppliers.


About you:

You will have significant experience in a senior IT relationship and/or portfolio delivery role (whether IT Business Partner, Business Relationship Manager, Head of Portfolio, Head of IT or IT Director) in a business where eCommerce and customer experience drive the business growth.  You will be an experience leader with the ability to build successful project teams, covering resources spread across Business and IT in a matrix environment.

 

You will have a solid and demonstrable understanding of marketing, CRM and eCommerce technology platforms and systems integrators.  Along with vendor management and commercial partnering experience.  In addition you will have experience of leading technology change and delivery within a Commercial/CX environment across B2B and B2C, in an organisation with both a web application development and SaaS software implementation focus, preferably in retail or other fast moving distributed business.

 

You will have the impact and gravitas to manage complex relationships at Executive level along with Experience of driving value for money by managing the development of robust business cases for all IT related programmes and providing constructive challenge to business leaders on the most effective use of IT spend.
