Human Resources Business Partner - Portfolio and Innovation

About the role:

 

The HRBP role partners with our employees and leaders across the Product Portfolio & Innovation function, providing HR insight and input into the development of business strategy, then aligning our people strategy and plans to ensure our objectives are delivered. Sounds simple, but in a truly global business with plans to double in size by 2022, this requires you to be agile, audacious, and dedicated to ensuring we’ve the right culture and capability in our teams to help our customers achieve their research missions, faster.

   

In the Product Portfolio and Innovation function you’ll be working with fantastic colleagues from a number of diverse backgrounds, from Product/Category Management, through to our highly qualified Research and Development scientists. This role supports teams in Cambridge, UK; and sites in Boston, Branford and Eugene in the United States so will need some flexibility around working with different time zones (though you can expect the same flexibility in return).

 

Primary Responsibilities:

It’s a varied job that on any given day will see your devising and delivering our functional people plan; working with leaders to drive talent and capability or helping design and deploy, or even lead Global HR projects. Ultimately, you’ll be an expert formulating partnership across the business to deliver value-added service on HR related issues and best practice. This includes (but isn’t limited to):

  • Collaborating with the HR Director and functional managers to assess and anticipate HR-related needs
  • Implementing and embedding global HR initiatives across the function(s)

  • Coaching and influencing leaders and managers around a wide variety of people issues

  • Maintaining a solid understanding and working knowledge of the business function and global business strategy

  • Design, facilitate and evaluate internal training, workshops and strategy days as required

  • Provide support and advice to managers in relation to performance/talent development

  • Provide guidance and input on business unit restructures

  • Design and develop career development strategies in collaboration with the Learning and Talent Development Centre of excellence

  • Support the Reward team on the annual performance management and reward cycle and any additional initiatives as needed

  • Partner with managers to drive high employee engagement across the organisation

  • Work with the Talent Acquisition team to identify and provide input on workforce planning   and acquisition

  • Drive employee engagement and communications, in collaboration with the Change Management and Internal Communications Director

  • Act as an employee champion and change agent

  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations and case management in conjunction with the Regional HR Advisors

  • Other duties as reasonably requested

About you - Competencies, Skills, Knowledge:

  • Strong influencing skills, with the courage to coach and feedback to senior leaders.

  • Working knowledge of employment law in relevant countries

  • Broad knowledge of HR best practice

  • Strong bias for action and a “solution orientated” attitude

  • Fluent written and spoken English

  • Able to work both on a team (as member and/or leader) and independently to deliver results

  • Ability to convey ideas and recommendations in a clear, compelling and succinct way in written and verbal communications

  • Good attention to detail and an ability to analyse and use data in decision making.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with ability to balance competing priorities

  • Experience identifying, diagnosing and resolving issues independently; will take initiative even under unfamiliar or ambiguous circumstances

  • Anticipates need to re-prioritize; can shift gears and comfortably makes decisions based on new information

  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or First degree in Human Resources, Business or other related field

  • CIPD qualified or equivalent is an advantage

 Experience:

  • Extensive experience providing professional HR advice in a high-quality environment

  • Demonstrated experience and success in helping managers align human resources planning and business strategy

  • Increased scope and complexity in HR case work
