Biochemical Technical Specialist 

Job purpose:

This role is based in our Cambridge, UK office and reports into the Team Leader (In-House Manufacturing QC Team) . The Biochemical Technical Specialist will support the Abcam biochemical product inventory ensuring quality and continued supply in collaboration with the supplier management and supply chain teams.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the procurement team to source products economically for the biochemical inventory, as directed by demand planning.

  • Provide technical procurement services for bespoke chemicals as required within Abcam (such as small molecule antigens and biochemicals).

  • Liaise with outsourced suppliers and appropriately source products within the product inventory ensuring compliance with import regulations.

  • Manage the quality of the inventory by reviewing QC data.

  • Work closely with Abcam’s Supply Chain team to ensure optimal stock availability in Abcam’s global offices.

  • Provide support for technical enquiries relating to products within the inventory.

  • Support the sales teams with LVO or specific product requests.

  • Provide technical input such as tariff codes for the publication of new biochemical products.

  • Liaise with logistics teams to manage the switching of product suppliers as appropriate.

  • Scientific support for R&D research projects.

  • Interpretation of NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy) Data.

     

Summary of Requirements:

  • Degree level education or equivalent in chemical sciences.

  • Familiarity with chemical structures and nomenclature.

  • Understanding of analytical chemistry techniques.

  • Familiar with basic chemical laboratory techniques.

  • Basic knowledge of Excel

  • Confident team player.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills.

 

Desirable:

  • PhD in chemistry or related subject.

  • Experience of sourcing products.

  • Previous experience in importation of chemicals and logistics.

  • Familiarity with ERP systems, preferably Oracle
