Apprentice Laboratory Technician

This is a lab based role where you will be supporting routine affinity purification, peptide conjugation techniques and antibody conjugation methods. The antibody Purification & Conjugation team has a central role in the development and manufacture of our antibody products. Working as part of a team you will assist with the everyday running of the Purification & Conjugation lab.  This is a Level 5 apprenticeship where you will work in our business 4 days a week, with the 5th day focused on your academic learning delivered by CSR who experts at training Laboratory Apprentices.  

Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical and Technical

•Support routine conjugation processes and deliver completed experiments in line with the Conjugation schedule. Record own experimental data; recognise deviations and flag to Line Manager.
•Support routine polyclonal and monoclonal purification processes and deliver completed experiments in line with the relevant purification schedules.
•Where appropriate work alongside your line manager on R&D/ process optimisation projects.
•Keep the team, Line Manager and where appropriate individuals in other teams informed and up-to-date by sharing all relevant experimental information.
•Contribute to the housekeeping tasks within the Purification & Conjugation Lab areas; assist with checking completion of the tasks when required and support co-ordinating completion where tasks are outstanding. Key tasks consist of:
•To maintain cleanliness of all laboratory benches, centrifuges, fridges and freezers.
•To undertake general maintenance of basic equipment including monitoring and cleaning fridges, freezers, balances, centrifuges and safety cabinets.
•To assist in the organisation and receipt of stock items, consumables etc. ensuring where appropriate that items are entered into the relevant log, and placed at the correct storage temperature. To collect and deliver reagents, QC samples etc. as required.


•Maintain good lab records, within Production BMRs and where required, lab notebook.
•Attend relevant meetings and support the completion of additional actions and objectives within agreed deadlines.
•Undertake general laboratory filing and administration when required.

•Competent computer skills (in particular database and word processing)
•Excellent telephone manner
•Use of computers including word, excel and laboratory programmes
•Accuracy in working and close attention to detail
•Ability to work in an organised and tidy manner
•Organisational skills including the ability to prioritise work
•Ability to deal appropriately with sensitive information

It is desirable but not essential for candidates to also have:
•Previous laboratory work in an accredited laboratory
•Experience in basic laboratory procedures and the use of equipment (including automated equipment)
