Pipeline Strategy Analyst (12 Month FTC)

Department: Collaborations

Location: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom

Join Abcam as a Pipeline Strategy Analyst

About the role:

The Pipeline Strategy Analyst at Abcam sits within the Research Area Strategy team and is a key commercial analytics role. Responsible for utilising complex scientific insight to provide strategic direction to the new product development (NPD) and in-licensing pipelines, this role drives commercial and NPD decisions across all areas of biological science to serve customer needs both now and in the future.

The role is part of a team of 3, headed up by the VP, Research Area Strategy, and is responsible for the analytics required for the full end to end process of commercial evaluation, submission and initiation of a new research tool into Abcam’s global manufacturing pipelines.

You will use your experience of mining external datasets to supplement Abcam’s existing knowledge hub on the key protein targets being researched in the quest for cures for the world’s most impactful diseases. You will be responsible for not only recommending the most important targets to manufacture antibodies against, but also for accurately determining the key attributes required of the final research tool to address customer need.

Your ability to analyse complex datasets and derive strategic insight will be utilised to determine the commercial value of in-licensing and NPD suggestions at scale, make go/no go decisions for each project, and support critical decisions into which of Abcam’s manufacturing pipelines a protein target should be submitted in order to maximise efficiency and success. You will provide input to shape Abcam’s future portfolio through the prioritisation of all NPD projects against each other and against the Research Area Strategy team’s strategic vision. You will also provide support to ensure the smooth journey of a new product idea through to a marketable product and your trouble shooting and solution finding skills will be key to success, particularly for our in-licensing strategy, where an ability to build relationships with Licensors and a network of collaborators will be key.

Your sphere of responsibility will include Abcam’s NPD pipelines for antibodies, antibody-based kits and in-licensed materials initially, and the timely decisions you make on which projects to initiate will drive action in not only the Manufacturing teams but also the Research Area Strategy and Corporate Development teams. These teams will rely on your analytical and decision-making ability to achieve their goals and so close collaboration is critical.

About you

You will have experience in analytics of large datasets and evaluation of new product ideas in the Research, Biotech, Pharma or Diagnostics industry. In addition, you will have experience of driving the automation of data analysis and to implementing process improvement. You will preferably have a strong and broad scientific understanding of a range of research areas and an understanding of antibody development and applications.

You will have proven ability to establish strong working relationships internally and externally. The ability to communicate and present findings and recommendations effectively will also be key to this role.

A minimum of a BSc in biological sciences or equivalent would be necessary and a PhD would be a bonus.
