Junior Graphic Designer

Job Title: Junior Designer        

Reports to: Digital Design Manager

Job purpose:

You will be designing a wide variety of marketing collateral across digital and offline media, capable of delivering brilliant creative ideas and show exceptional attention to detail. You will own and deliver print and digital art working projects end to end while providing skilled and technically precise support to the creative team. Working at pace, you will handle multiple projects at once, liaising directly with key 'client' stakeholders with the broader team's help.

Working with senior creative staff on a range of ambitious and innovative projects. Responsible for helping drive the creative direction of campaigns with an understanding of typography, layout, and art direction to help the team produce the best work possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Abcam Studio design team to support all design and creative briefs and key stakeholders.
  • Offering input to creative meetings and sharing ideas
  • Designing and art working multimedia-based layouts, focusing on print-based marketing literature, newsletters, and other printed documents, as well as digital designs and graphics for use across all Abcam global channels.
  • Honing and developing your skills in all aspects of art working, notably layout setting, typography, photography treatment, and retouching.
  • Contributing to team efforts by accomplishing tasks as needed.
  • Reviewing final layouts and suggesting improvements when necessary.
  • Have excellent knowledge of the Abcam Brand Guidelines, ensuring consistently on-brand high-quality artwork.

Education, Training & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field

 

Experience – work, research, voluntary, other

  • Good knowledge in Adobe Creative Cloud, with a focus on Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Demonstrable graphic design skills with a strong portfolio
  • A background working as part of a design team
  • Studio/agency background
  • Experience in Scientific visualization and motion graphics

Specific skills & abilities

 

  • A strong eye for visual composition.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, confident to contribute to the entire creative process
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment
  • The ability to see projects through from inception to production
  • Have a methodical approach to archiving projects, images, and artwork.

  • Able to give and receive constructive criticism and use it to improve while demonstrating a strong creative drive.
  • Self-starter, taking ownership and diving projects to completion
