Engineering Team Leader

About the role 

The Engineering Team Leader will lead the Hangzhou engineering team to deliver great service to users, preserving the value of all our infrastructure & equipment through continuous and systematic maintenance and ensuring an effective and professional service to support the continued growth and development of our company. As well as ensuring the site runs well, you’ll also be taking the lead on improvement projects at times to create a safe, flexible, comfortable working environment working with the whole Abcam team in developing appropriate solutions.

You’ll also ensure the safety of our site by close co-operation with the EHS team, taking corrective action to eliminate risks or reduce the risk level as much as possible, regularly conducting safety inspections in accordance with safety regulations.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership to the site engineering team (current team of three) with regard to area management, construction management, technical equipment management, operation and maintenance, & infrastructure services

  • Set and deliver annual maintenance & inspection plans for Lab equipment and infrastructure, ensuring all corresponding files & records should be are correctly tracked, kept accessible and archived (For example, centrifuge, exposure machine, shaker, CO2 incubator, auto pipetting station, liquid handle machine, clean bench, fume hood, biosafety cabinets etc.)

  • Work with your line manager to present annual maintenance and repair budgets, ensure these are well controlled well by regularly reviewing actual expenditure.

  • Work with your line manager to set up standard procedures, work flows, SOPs, and continuously improve current documentation based on changing requirements or opportunities to improve work efficiency

  • Co-ordinate and coach your direct reports, assigning duties and checking the relevant quality and performance, balancing constructive feedback with recognition and praise.

  • Work with other internal deptartments (such as procurement, R&D and Manufacturing) as well as external suppliers to set up maintenance contracts and purchase orders, providing professional requirements based on your know-how and experience

  • Set up equipment and infrastructure accounts and organize regular review

  • Ensure a daily review of repair orders, ensuring service levels and other KPIs are met

  • Organize emergency response in the case of any malfunction (eg blackout, water outage, leakage etc.), and take effective measures to resolve

  • Control utility management, such as power, tap water, gas etc. Maintain a comprehensive database, looking to devise and implement viable energy conservation measures or relevant improvement ideas

  • Develop or improve our current infrastructure to meet R&D and production requirements, providing safe, comfortable working environments as well as systems such as such as HV&LV systems, DI-water systems, AHU, chillers, separate air conditioning etc

  • Take the initiative to find risks or potential unsafe factors, and take corresponding actions to fix

  • Any other assigned duties that may arise from time to time!

About you

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering, Equipment, HVAC or related field

  • Good English skills in listening, writing and speaking is preferred

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in equipment, infrastructure execution, and at least 2 years in management position, such as team leader, supervisor etc.

  • Good levels of familiarity with Lab equipment, such as centrifuge, shaker, liquid handle machine, CO2 incubator, clean bench, fume hood, biosafety cabinet etc.

  • Knowledge of relevant lab regulations, operational requirements of clean room or sterile room

  • Familiar with infrastructure, such as HVAC, clean room, ventilation etc.

  • Familiar with EHS related regulations and requirement, and a proven track record to follow these in your daily work

  • Good administrational and paperwork skills, able to use related soft tools to make analysis and help make decisions (Word, Excel, PPT, CAD, Visio etc)

  • Project experience is preferred
