Abcam are a leading supplier of protein research tools to life scientists, with a global reputation for high performance products with detailed technical specifications. As we continue our rapid growth and success, we now have a need for a new permanent role within our Research and Development (R&D) function for a highly motivated Associate Scientist with experience in immunohistochemistry to join the IHC team. You will be responsible for the validation and characterization of new products as well as Abcam core products in singleplex and multipex immunohistochemistry assays.  


The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in manual and automated immunohistochemistry (Leica BOND, and/or Ventana platforms) and knowledge of antibody validation with IHC multiplexing methods being an advantage. 


Roles and Responsibilities 


  • Experimental design and execution of IHC single and multiplex assays 
  • Imaging and analysis of tissue sections using manual and automated microscopy in brightfield and fluorescence (Leica Aperio AT2, Leica SP8) 
  • Validation, optimization and documentation of new assay protocols and their integration into standard work streams 
  • Actively seek to improve testing conditions for individual antibody products and product groups to best demonstrate their performance 
  • Help to establish and maintain high quality standards during experimental processes and record keeping 
  • Contribute to and support process improvements 
  • Accurately recording experimental details in Lab notebooks or the Batch Manufacturing Record (BMR) system 
  • Abide by Laboratory SOPs and work within Abcam H & S, Ethical and Quality standards 




About You 

You will have a MSc in Biomedical/Biological Sciences or equivalent experience in industry setting.  

You will have solid understanding and knowledge of histology with identification of normal and pathological tissues and a strong background in immunohistochemistry techniques with experience in multiplexing being an advantage.  

You will have hands-on experience with automated IHC platforms, with experience in Leica BOND being an advantage. From this, experience with tissue microtomy is expected. You will have experience in using automated whole slide scanning systems with image analysis software experience being an advantage.  

You will be a team player, hardworking, have excellent organisational capabilities and deliver results consistently to a high standard. You will have the ability to manage day-to-day activities, conform to SOPs, work to deadlines and achieve clear milestones set by the line manager, with the understanding of how these fit into the wider team purpose.
