Leonica’s story

Junior IT Business Analyst

I joined Abcam fresh out of University as a temp, initially in a role where I was using my German language skills to help the Customer Service team. I wanted to keep up the use of my German, and being in Customer Service allowed me to do that. Because of the training opportunities I had, it was hardly any time at all before I progressed to become a Supervisor for the German speaking team. After a few years at Abcam though, I found my interest had moved more toward IT, and the company completely supported me in that. I made the move to our IT department, becoming an IT Project Analyst and then eventually a Junior IT Business Analyst. Moving across departments, I’ve found that everyone has a clear impact here, no matter which team you work with. During my time in Customer Service, for instance, I worked to implement a process for integrating Biochemicals, establishing a vetting procedure that would ensure the safety of our staff and customers. It was a large scale project, making an obvious difference for people’s daily lives, and the processes we implemented remain in place today. In my current role too, I feel like I’m having an impact every day. I work within the Tactical team, where our role is to support the business in implementing small improvements within our existing systems. This process is completely central to the smooth running of the business, and I know that it’s a business that helps a lot of people, so it’s incredibly rewarding work to be part of every day. Being at Abcam, I’ve had so much support to choose my own career path, and I’m consistently challenged to think outside the box every day in how I approach my work as well as my career progression. The future isn’t set in stone and Abcam has changed and grown a lot since I joined, so it’s exciting to be a part of that journey and see what’s next for Abcam, and for my career.
